How to Make the Perfect Espresso
At Vega Cafe, we believe that great coffee starts with the perfect espresso. Follow these steps to brew a rich, smooth, and aromatic shot every time.
Ingredients & Tools
-
Freshly ground espresso coffee (medium-fine grind)
-
Filtered water
-
Espresso machine (manual, semi-automatic, or automatic)
-
Tamper
-
Fresh coffee cup
Instructions
-
Preheat Your Espresso Machine
Turn on your machine and let it reach the proper brewing temperature (around 195–205°F / 90–96°C). -
Measure & Grind Coffee
Use 18–20 grams of coffee for a double shot. Grind the coffee just before brewing for maximum freshness. -
Tamp the Coffee
Place the coffee grounds in the portafilter and press them evenly with firm pressure. A level, compact puck ensures even extraction. -
Brew the Espresso
Lock the portafilter into the machine. Start the shot and aim for 25–30 seconds of extraction for a 1–2 ounce espresso. You should see a rich, golden crema on top. -
Serve Immediately
Pour the espresso into a pre-warmed cup and enjoy. Espresso is best served fresh.
Vega Cafe Tips:
- Fresh beans: Always use freshly roasted beans.
- Adjust grind and dose: Bitter taste? Try a coarser grind. Sour? Try a finer grind.
- Experiment: Single-origin beans create unique flavor profiles.
- Extra Treat: Use this espresso as the base for lattes and cappuccinos.
